Confirming the dog, taking payment, returning belongings, and checking the dog over before it goes home.

Purpose

A client walks up to the front desk at pickup time. Before the dog goes home, checkout runs a short, consistent sequence: confirm the dog, process payment, return belongings, check the dog over, and send the owner off with the right expectations for the rest of the day.

Confirming the Dog and Taking Payment

If you are not sure which dog the owner is here for, ask in a friendly way: "Who are you picking up today?" Then check the dog out using the kennel system and take payment.

  • If the dog is a Daycare customer and has 0 days left on its package, ask if the owner would like to renew or upgrade.
  • If the dog is a new Daycare member, ask if the owner would like to subscribe to one of the Daycare Packages.
  • If the dog is going home from Boarding or a camp program, take payment before returning the dog to the owner. Once the dog leaves the facility, take down its kennel tags and sanitize the lodging.

Returning Belongings

All belongings and medication go back with the owner. Have them review what is being returned and verify everything is there before they leave the facility.

Checking the Dog Over

While putting the leash on, check the dog over for any nicks, scratches, or other marks. Take photos to document anything you find and point it out to the pet parent. If you find something more significant, contact a senior member of the team immediately to evaluate.

Sending the Owner Off

Let the owner know the dog may be tired for the rest of the day and may drink more water than usual. That is normal, given how much more activity the dog got at school compared with a typical day at home. Thank the client, and let them know to reach out with any questions or concerns.

Whatever camera or phone your facility uses for checkout photos. Take the picture, point out what you found to the pet parent on the spot, and if you find something more significant, get a senior team member to evaluate it before the dog leaves.
