Using Gemini to assist in writing creative, personalized report cards for dogs and their pet parents

A Faster Way to Write a Standout Report Card

Picture a pet parent picking up their dog at the end of the day, hoping for more than "good day, no incidents." Gemini, Google's AI assistant, can turn your own session notes into a report card the family actually wants to read: funny, heartwarming, or educational, whichever tone fits that dog and that day, in a couple of minutes instead of a blank page.

A note before you start: Google retired the Bard name in favor of Gemini. The current tool lives at gemini.google.com, not bard.google.com. If you have an old link or bookmark to this article from before, update it.

Before You Start

The Process

Go to Gemini and sign in with your Partners Google account.
Start a new chat.
Enter your own message prompt, describing the dog's session in your own words.
Or paste a saved template prompt instead of writing one from scratch.
Add the dog's specific details: strengths, weaknesses, daily activities, and goals.
Add anything else relevant: training progress, or a positive health note.
Preview what Gemini gives you, and edit anything that does not read right before it goes anywhere.
Copy the finished report card and paste it into Gingr.

A Ready-Made Prompt Template

Use this field list as the basis of your prompt, filled in with real detail from the session:

Feed those fields to Gemini and ask for a letter written from the dog's own point of view. That is the format the example below uses.

Hi Mom and Dad,

Other tones work the same way. A playful note on a chewer in progress might read: "I'm giving you a B for your chewing habits. You've stopped chewing your shoes and started chewing your toys more, but keep at it, with a goal of chewing your toys for at least 30 minutes a day." An educational note on new tricks might simply say the dog has learned sit, stay, and shake, and is starting to pick up roll over and fetch.

Other Uses

Save your own templates in Gemini once you find a tone that works, so you are not rebuilding it each time. The same tool works for other personalized content too: birthday cards, holiday cards, even a poem for a dog's milestone.
