How to Turn on Do Not Disturb

What our RingCentral line already blocks on its own, and how to switch manual Do Not Disturb on and off yourself.

Purpose

This covers what Do Not Disturb (DND) does on our RingCentral line, how the line is already set up to go quiet outside business hours on its own, and how to switch manual DND on and off yourself for anything that schedule does not cover. It matters because DND blocks every incoming call across your desktop, desk phone, and cell phone at the same time, so leaving it on by accident means a missed call from a client or a coworker either way.

At a Glance

  • Our line is preconfigured to route no calls to you outside posted hours: Monday through Friday before 8am or after 5pm, Saturday after 2pm, or any time Sunday, since the office is closed that day.
  • Manual DND is separate from that schedule. Use it for anything the schedule does not already cover: a lunch break, feeling sick, stepping away mid-shift.
  • DND blocks calls everywhere at once, desktop app, desk phone, and cell phone together; there is no way to silence just one device.
  • DND does not turn itself back off. It stays active until you switch your status back to available.

Steps

Turning Manual DND On

  1. Open RingCentral on whichever device is in front of you, desktop or mobile app.
  2. Find your presence/status indicator and set it to Do Not Disturb.
  3. Confirm the change went through; your status should show DND wherever you are signed in.

Turning DND Back Off

  1. Open the same presence/status control.
  2. Switch it back to Available.
  3. Confirm before you assume calls are coming through again. A client or coworker trying to reach you will not get through until this step is done.

Edge Cases / Troubleshooting

Calls are not coming in during normal business hours

Check whether manual DND was left on from a prior break, a sick day, or the end of the day before. That is the most common cause once you are inside our standard preconfigured window.

What's the fastest way to tell if DND is on right now

Check your presence/status indicator directly; if it reads Do Not Disturb, that is your answer. Do not assume from a missed call alone, since a missed call can have other causes.

A scheduled shift falls outside the auto-schedule

The preconfigured hours-based schedule only knows our posted office hours. If you are working outside that window, or our hours change, flag it to your manager instead of trying to work around it yourself.

Vendor Reference

The manual Do Not Disturb toggle is standard RingCentral functionality, covered in the vendor's own documentation below. Our own configuration on top of that is the hours-based auto-schedule, built to match our posted office hours so no calls route to you when we are closed.

Who to Ask

If the toggle is not where these steps say it should be, check the vendor doc above first; app screens shift between updates. If DND is still not behaving the way this article describes, or the auto-schedule needs adjusting for a change in our hours, loop in your manager.
