Enclosure/Suite Cleaning Procedures

How kennels, Suites, and the Suite hallway get cleaned each morning, during the day, and when a boarding dog checks out.

Purpose

This SOP covers how kennels, Suites, and the Suite hallway get cleaned, both on the daily morning pass and as dogs move in and out. It matters because Suites hold boarding dogs for days at a stretch, so a kennel that isn't fully cleaned and dried between guests carries a mess, a smell, or worse into the next dog's stay.

It covers the morning enclosure pass, spot-cleaning an occupied enclosure during the day, the Suite hallway, and what happens at turnover when a dog checks out.

At a Glance

Steps

Morning Enclosure Pass

  1. Check every kennel and enclosure for anything that happened overnight.
  2. Pressure-wash and wet-vac each enclosure as the morning pass.
  3. Pull cots or bedding for cleaning, or clean them in place.
  4. Run the wet-vac over any enclosure with an excessive amount of shed hair.
  5. Sweep up any spilled food or a shredded paper bowl.
  6. Replace and refill each water bowl so it's within reach of the dog using that enclosure.

During the Day

  1. Spot-clean an occupied enclosure with a mop whenever that dog is out for a potty break or play time.

Suite Hallway

  1. Wet-vac the hallway daily.
  2. Wipe down benches or chairs as needed.
  3. Keep the aisles clear: everything stored in its place, nothing left cluttering the walkway.

Dog Departure (Suite Turnover)

  1. Remove every bucket, sign, and piece of paperwork from the suite once the dog has checked out.
  2. Sanitize the kennel as needed.
  3. Leave the kennel ready for whichever dog is assigned to it next.

Edge Cases

What if I'm not sure whether an enclosure needs the pressure washer or just a mop?

The pressure washer and wet-vac are the standard for every kennel's morning pass. A mop is for spot-cleaning during the day, in between those passes, not a substitute for the morning one.

What if a dog has shed heavily or torn up a paper bowl?

Run the wet-vac for heavy shedding. Sweep up a torn paper bowl and the food it spilled.

What if a Suite's water bowl turns up dry or out of reach?

Water bowls are replaced each morning and filled as necessary after that, so a dry or out-of-reach bowl gets handled whenever you find it, not only on the morning pass.
