Partners Dogs 360 (PD360) Assessment

(~13 min) A comprehensive assessment designed to understand your dog’s behavior, obedience, and social skills, to create recommendations and personalized training plans.

Overview

The PD360 Assessment is an in-depth evaluation that allows Partners Dog School trainers to analyze your dog’s behavior, obedience, and sociability across a range of situations. This assessment is the foundation for creating a customized training plan, helping owners address specific behavioral concerns and achieve long-term improvements. With a focus on key behaviors, temperament, and social interactions, the PD360 provides a holistic view of your dog’s training needs.

This article covers what to expect from the PD360 Assessment, including a breakdown of the assessment phases, the behaviors we focus on, and how the results will guide our program recommendations.

Start here: Most Partners programs (Private Lessons, DaySchool/DayCamp, Pet Parenting Classes, Foundation/Behavior/Transform Camp) begin with a PD360 to confirm fit, safety, and the fastest path to real-world results.

Who It’s For (and not for)

Great fit if you want:

  • A professional baseline for pulling, jumping, impulse control, recall, leash skills, thresholds, and settling.

  • A safe read on reactivity/anxiety/resource routines and a recommendation for DaySchool/DayCamp/Camp.

  • Accurate class grade placement before joining group training.

Not a vet exam: We’re assessing training readiness and behavior—not diagnosing medical conditions. If we notice anything concerning, we’ll recommend you speak with your veterinarian.

What the PD360 Measures

We evaluate both skills and state of mind in real-life scenarios.

Behavior & Arousal
  • Startle recovery, resilience, ability to reorient to handler

  • Frustration tolerance, coping in novel environments/sounds/surfaces

  • Disengagement (“Out”) from stimuli or objects, impulse control at thresholds

Obedience & Manners
  • Name response, sit/down/stay, recall, leash language & heel patterns

  • Leave it / Out, polite greetings, door routines, crate/kennel comfort

  • Reward understanding (markers) and response to fair feedback

Social Comfort (when appropriate)
  • Neutral proximity to people/dogs; playgroup only if temperament and safety allow

  • Handler transfer (working cleanly for different trainers)

Specific Concerns
  • Resource routines (food/toys/space), body handling/cooperative care

  • Environmental sensitivity (noise, crowds, visual motion)

What to Expect (Timeline, Drop-off & Pick-up)

Total same-day cadence:
  • Dog evaluation: ~4+ hours at the school (structured blocks with rest)

  • Parent consult: ~60+ minutes same day (when scheduling allows)

Drop-off Consult (~25–35 minutes)
  • Welcome & Intake (5–10 min): History, routines, medical notes, allergies.

  • Goals & Priorities (10–15 min): Top wins you want (loose-leash, greetings, settle, recall).

  • Method Primer (5–10 min): Learning phases (Teaching → Reinforcing → Proofing → Maintenance), marker timing, criteria clarity.

  • Assessment Map (2–5 min): What we’ll do during the evaluation and why.

In-School Evaluation (Dog Only, ~4+ hours)
  • Warm-up & Baseline: Engagement, name response, simple positions.

  • Core Blocks: Leash work, thresholds, place/settle, recall, leave-it/out; exposure to surfaces, sights, and sounds; handler swaps to test transfer.

  • Social Read: Neutral proximity or playgroup only if temperament indicates safety.

  • Welfare Tracking: Appetite, stool quality, energy, stress signals, recovery time.

Pick-up Consult (~45–60+ minutes)
  • Debrief (10–15 min): What we saw—strengths, friction points, likely triggers.

  • Results & Profile (20–25 min): Arousal/recovery, handler focus, impulse control, reliability with distractions, social comfort.

  • Placement & Plan (10–15 min): Exact class grade, DaySchool vs. DayCamp, or Camp type (Foundation / Behavior / Transform), or Private Lessons; with week-one homework.

  • Same-day actions: Reserve start dates, apply any same-day enrollment credit (if offered), or leave your dog to begin camp immediately when appropriate.

  • Post-visit email: Full PD360 write-up + recommendations + booking links sent to you.

Tools, Safety & Welfare

  • Default handling: Flat/buckle collar, standard leash, food rewards; calm, structured setups.

  • No new e-collar/prong intro during PD360; if your dog already works on specific tools, tell us and we’ll note it, but assessments prioritize neutral, widely used equipment.

  • Welfare: Short work blocks → water breaks → decompression. Indoor/outdoor rotations, shade, airflow; paw safety on hot surfaces.

  • Health safeguards: If we observe contagious symptoms (cough/sneeze, vomiting/diarrhea, fever, unusual lethargy), we isolate, notify you, and pause the session.

Scoring, Results & Placement

We summarize your dog’s profile across five axes:

  1. Arousal & Recovery – How fast they escalate and settle.

  2. Handler Focus – Check-ins, reorientation, responsiveness.

  3. Impulse Control – Thresholds, greetings, disengagement (“Out”).

  4. Reliability – First/second-cue performance under distraction.

  5. Social Comfort – Neutral proximity, tolerance, play (if applicable).

Placement Examples
  • Pet Parenting Classes: Exact grade placement (Pre-School → Dogtorate).

  • Day Programs: DaySchool (social small-group) vs. DayCamp (1:1 for less-social dogs or targeted goals).

  • Board & Train: Foundation (manners), Behavior (reactivity/anxiety/guarding), Transform (combined advanced behavior + obedience).

  • Private Lessons: On-, or—in appropriate obedience-only cases—in-home (trainer discretion).

Expiration & Re-check: If there’s a major life change (new dog/baby/move/medical) or >90 days pass before starting, we may do a brief re-check to confirm placement.

Pricing

  • PD360 Assessment: $199/dog (first dog); $149/dog (second dog)
(multi-dog families should schedule separate assessments)

  • Same-day enrollment credit: $[INSERT CREDIT] toward a recommended program/package (if offered; confirm current amount & terms)

Common Questions & Answers

Why do you require PD360 before most programs?
Placement saves time and stress. PD360 confirms safety, baseline skills, and the best starting point (class grade, day program type, or camp), so training is fair and efficient.

Will my dog interact with other dogs during the assessment?
Only if the temperament read supports it. We often assess neutral proximity first; playgroups are used when they’re appropriate and safe.

What happens if my dog is very anxious or reactive on the day?
We pivot to lower-arousal setups, build engagement, and document what works. You’ll still get a clear plan, which may start with DayCamp or Private Lessons before group work.

Do you use prongs or e-collars in PD360?
We don’t introduce speciality tools during PD360. If your dog already trains on a tool, tell us—we’ll note it—but the assessment emphasizes neutral equipment and marker-based communication.

Can my dog start training right after PD360?
Often yes. Trainers may recommend leaving your dog to begin camp or joining a class immediately. We’ll help you reserve dates and apply any same-day credit (if offered).

How long are the results “good for”?
If you begin within ~90 days, placement typically stands. Significant life changes or long gaps may warrant a brief re-check.

We have two dogs—can they be assessed together?
We schedule separate PD360s so each dog gets a clean read; we’ll also note household dynamics and can plan for joint practice later.

What if my dog is intact / in heat?
Intact dogs can be assessed; active heat may require rescheduling for welfare/sanitation. Ask us for timing guidelines.

Minimum age?
We generally begin school-based work at 20 weeks with required vaccines in place. Younger pups can start with in-home training until they meet age/vaccine requirements.

What if my dog shows signs of illness during PD360?
We isolate your dog, contact you for pick-up, and pause the session. Dogs should be symptom-free for 7 days before returning.

Will I get written results?
Yes. After your in-person debrief, you’ll receive the full PD360 email (profile, placement, recommendations, next steps, and booking links).

Is the PD360 fee refundable?
No. Assessment fees are non-refundable. If a same-day enrollment credit is offered, we’ll apply it toward your recommended program/package.

What if I don't decide to proceed with training after the PD360?
No problem at all! We will still provide a program recommendation and will save your results on file in case you change your mind in the future.

Can PD360 place us directly into Private Lessons?
Absolutely. For obedience goals or specific household routines, PD360 may recommend Private Lessons (in-school or in-home at trainer discretion). Behavior cases start in school.
